For this project we were brought on to create a music video artist ‘Keelan X’ for his cover of Johnny Logans’ famous winning Eurovision song ‘What’s Another Year’.
Visual Development
We had a lot of freedom to explore different narrative ideas and concepts. At the beginning or the process we produced a test animation to explore our options. This was inspired by a “60’s retro aesthetic” and gave us a good idea of what sort of colour pallets we would play with for the final piece.
Character Design
After a style exploration and some discussion with the client, we decided to go a different direction. We wanted to age our main character down and explore a more anime inspired style to give it ‘cuter’ aesthetic.
Backgrounds
Once settling on a style for the backgrounds, we made sure to fill them with detail and nostalgic references. We used limited colour palettes, that changed depending on the environment, but all the same kept them to a cohesive style and feeling.
Post Production
The post production on this project was a stage we gave extra attention to. Since the clients brief was to create a music video centered around being retro; having a glowing nostalgic effect was vital to finishing the video, Especially once the story transitions into the dream like neon filled past.
