What Is CatBirdDog?
The concept behind "CatBirdDog" at EggBug Animation Studio started when we had the concept of a story that would be wacky and weird while also keeping the story accessible and the characters “real”. We didn’t have time to produce a full slate of animations, but we wanted to storyboard out a few scenes. This was when we realised we could capture a lot of what we loved about the idea in a comic.
CatBirdDog is an expression of the creative freedom that social media offers, allowing individuals to express themselves and share their ideas without limitation. With "CatBirdDog," we wanted to tell a story important to us, with realistic and grounded issues for the characters in a less grounded world.
At the core of our work, the most important thing is to tell a good story. Several independent animations, like The Amazing World of Gumball and Bee and PuppyCat, originated as webcomics and went on to achieve massive success through crowdfunding, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars and garnering large fanbases in the process.
How did this all start?
CatBirdDog started, as all great ideas do, with a few rough sketches and characters we instantly fell in love with. From those initial concepts, the project quickly took on a life of its own, evolving into something much bigger and more exciting than we’d first imagined. We started this as a fun side project, so we were shocked when it took off so quickly!
From there, we researched the ideal social media platforms for our story, with a focus on follower interaction and engagement, expanding outreach across platforms. With each post, we’re not just sharing content; we’re building engagement and a loyal community that loves our story as much as we do!
